Espadrilles have been a summer staple for centuries — and for good reason. Lightweight, breathable, and effortlessly easy to wear, they’re one of the most naturally sustainable shoe styles ever made. At Natural World Eco, our women’s espadrilles stay true to that tradition: jute soles, natural uppers, and a relaxed silhouette that works from the market to the beach to a summer evening out.
It starts with the sole. Jute — the tightly woven natural fibre that gives espadrilles their iconic texture and flexibility — is one of the most environmentally benign materials in footwear. It’s fast-growing, requires no pesticides, needs very little water, and is fully biodegradable at end of life. Paired with natural canvas or organic cotton uppers on selected styles, an espadrille is about as close to a zero-impact summer shoe as you can get.
All Natural World Eco espadrilles carry the Green Trade World certification, independently verifying that no harmful substances were used at any stage of production. Selected styles also feature GOTS-certified organic cotton uppers — check individual product pages for material and certification details.
The classic flat espadrille is one of the most versatile shoes in a warm-weather wardrobe. A neutral canvas pair works with cropped trousers, midi skirts, denim shorts, and summer dresses alike. Lace-up styles look particularly good with wide-leg linen trousers or a wrap dress. Printed styles are best kept as the focal point — pair with solid, understated clothing and let the shoes do the talking.
Our espadrilles are sized in European sizing. Use our size guide for a UK-to-EU conversion — if you’re between sizes, we recommend sizing up for the best fit in natural fibre styles, which can feel slightly narrower than synthetic alternatives.
Jute-soled espadrilles are best kept for dry days — prolonged exposure to water can soften and distort the jute sole over time. For typical unpredictable UK summers, our rubber-soled canvas trainers are a more weather-resistant alternative. Always check the sole type on the individual product page if this matters to you.
Many styles carry PETA-Approved Vegan certification — but not all. Check the individual product page for certification details, or shop our vegan women’s footwear section to filter by certified vegan styles only.
Keep jute soles away from water where possible. For canvas uppers, spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap — avoid submerging or machine washing jute-soled styles. If your espadrilles get damp, allow them to dry naturally away from direct heat to preserve the shape of the sole.
